Vans in well-known perception

In 1966, Southern California, brothers Paul Van Doren and Jim Van Doren opened a small custom made footwear company called The Van Doren Rubber Company. It was unique in that they made the shoes on the premises and sold directly to the customer.

In the 1970s, skateboarders were attracted to the rugged construction and sticky rubber sole, soon it would be everywhere in Southern California. In 1976, Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta would modify the classic deck shoe to include a padded collar and colour combinations. The Vans "Off The Wall" logo was born.

Over the years, Vans continued to support and improve their original silhouettes to meet the needs of professional skateboarders and the progression of the sport. Now over half a century, they continue to support skate and surf culture with the heritage of skateboard icons like Steve Caballero, Tony Alva, Jay Adams to the current roster of skaters like Chima Fergusson, Elijah Berle and Kyle Walker.
